The ransom of Hector's corpse

Onwards

Attic red figure hydria, c. 500BC
Harvard University Art Museums, Cambridge

Achilles is reclining on a couch, as Priam enters,
stretching both arms out to grasp Achilles' knees.
Achilles is eating and in a gruesome detail,
blood from the meat, drawn with added red,
drips on Hector's corpse, which lies on the floor below.
Cords lash together the feet of Priam's dead son.
