One of the known eight panels from the external pillars of the Altar of the Eucharist in Siena Duomo. The panels represent the Four Doctors of the Church: S. Jerome, Gregory, Ambrose, Augustine as well as the four patron saints of Siena: S. Ansanus, Victor, Savinus and Crescentius.

apse fresco in the parish church at Cercina. Saints Jerome, Barbara and Anthony Abbot are portrayed within a false architecture with niches divided by fluted pilaster strips and Corinthian capitals.

According to the Golden Legend, Saint Jerome retired to Bethlehem, where he encountered the lion. The location is suggested by the details of the palm trees, the Turks with their turbans and some exotic animals.
