The works are grouped by current location. A thumbnail picture of the cloister of Sant'Agostino indicates that no accompanying image was available, for whatever reason. All the works are by Barnaba da Modena unless indicated otherwise.

St Catherine of Alexandria enthroned with devotees

The composition is similar to the
confraternity banner of St Anthony Abbot in London. In this work, however, the confraternity members, with one exception, have their faces covered, and the backs of their robes do not appear to be cut open.
There was a Confraternita di Santa Caterina in Genoa in the 14th century, founded after the Confraternita di Sant'Antonio Abate.

Madonna delle Grazie

San Giovanni Battista, Alba, Piedmont
Signed 'bnabas de mutina pinxit mccclxxvii'.
A magnificent work, still in wonderful condition, in the first chapel in the north aisle. The reflections on a sunny day rather defeated me.
The red brocade curtain which fomrs the background is particularly striking, with a distinct variation in the pattern to indicate folds. It is supported by two angels at the top of the painting.

There is an Annunciation in the spandrels. The background curtain is supported by angels, like that of the Alba painting.
Madonna dei Mercanti
c. 1380
Museo Nazionale di San Matteo, Pisa
The work was originally in the convent of San Giovanni del Fieri.
The Madonna is enthroned with the Child standing and blessing. The Child and the two seated angels hold scrolls.
The Child's scroll quotes Matthew 16:24 [Tunc Iesus dixit discipulis suis] 'si quis vult post me venire abneget semet ipsum et tollat crucem suam et sequatur me'.
A coral hangs round the neck of the Child. The ring on the Virgin's right hand is modelled with gesso and seems to have contained a gemstone.
